The capital Beijing is considered the Chinese center for politics, economy, culture, education and international relations. The metropolis is located in the north of the North China Plain and has an area of 16,808 square kilometers. By the end of 2021, Beijing’s population is 21.886 million, gross domestic product is 4,026.96 billion Renminbi, and disposable income per capita is 75,002 Renminbi. From 2017 to 2021, Beijing’s economic structure has been further optimized and upgraded, with the value added of the service sector accounting for more than 80 per cent of GDP. The characteristics of the high-end industry are more obvious. The proportion of the digital economy increased from 36.3 per cent in 2017 to 40.4 per cent in 2021, and the proportion of high-tech industries and strategic emerging industries is about 25 per cent each. The cultural industry has expanded, with its added value accounting for more than 10 per cent of the gross regional product, ranking first in China.
On November 24, 2014, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Germany e.V. successfully held the “Berlin–China Business Conference” with the theme of “Cooperation for Sustainable Urban Development”. In August 2015, an event on “Strategic Interpretation of German Industry 4.0” was held in Beijing. In December 2021, an industrial park focusing on economic and technological cooperation between China and Germany was opened in Beijing, actively developing new areas of cooperation such as alternative energy, green and digital economy. The park has already brought together more than 70 companies with German investments, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Ameco, with an annual production volume of more than 30 billion Renminbi, including 25 German hidden champions.
